Q: What does the term "megapixel" mean?

A: A pixel is a small square that makes up an image on your computer screen. A computer's 17-inch monitor has a resolution of 1,280 pixels wide by 1,024 pixels tall. A digital camera's CCD can only capture so many of these pixels, which are then stored in memory and later transferred to your computer. A camera with 1,000,000 pixels is a one megapixel camera.
