A: The Hornet case uses an active heatsink solution with a fan that directs airflow over the processor and exits through a vent in the side of the case. With some BIOS versions, active fan management is employed to minimize the noise level coming from the case. This occurs in the following BIOS versions: P02 Nimitz 2, P18 Shiloh, and the P07 Midway. One role of the BIOS is initializing fan control.
BIOS Setup Utility Fan Control options:
- Disabled - The CPU fan is set to Full ON. This setting creates the most fan noise.
- Enabled (specified default for the above BIOS versions) - CPU Fan is managed - BIOS initializes the hardware management device to control the fan.
