Q: How do I remove and replace the air duct and fan in the 3-bay micro-BTX case?

A: Remove the air duct

  1. Turn off the computer, and then disconnect the power cord and all external device cables.

  2. Remove the access panel.

  3. Inside the case, lift the center bracket up a short distance, and then disconnect the power and signal cables from the hard drive. Set the bracket aside.

  4. The green plastic air duct is located at the front of the case and partially covers the processor heatsink.

  5. Note that the fan cable is routed around parts of the air duct.

  6. Carefully pull up the air duct a short distance. Wiggling the duct to loosen it can be helpful.

  7. Follow the fan cable to its connection on the motherboard. Note the location, disconnect the cable, and then completely remove the air duct.

  8. If applicable, remove the fan from the air duct by removing the four screws that secure it, and then pulling the fan out of the duct.

Replace the air duct

  1. If applicable, place the fan in the air duct so that the label on the fan faces the interior of the computer case when the duct is installed. Also ensure that the fan cable is routed to the proper corner of the duct.

  2. Secure the fan with four screws.

  3. Holding the air duct close to the computer, connect the fan cable to the motherboard.

  4. Ensure that the cable is correctly routed around the exterior of the air duct, and then place the duct in the case.

  5. Ensure that the air duct fits against the front of the case and that no fan cables are pinched.

  6. Hold the center bracket close to the case, and then connect the power and signal cables to the hard drive.

  7. Place the center bracket in the case so that the arrow markings on each end align with the arrow markings on the case.

  8. Replace the access panel.

  9. Connect the external device cables and power cord, and then turn on the computer.
