DX442X, GT5692, GT5650jQ: How do I remove and replace the front ports assembly on the Gateway 5-bay case?A: Note: Depending on computer configuration, the front ports assembly can have a up to six ports. The graphics used in this document are examples that show all six ports. However, your computer's front panel assembly may have fewer.
Remove the front ports assembly
- Turn off the computer, and then disconnect the power cord.
- Remove the left side panel.
- Remove the front bezel
- The front ports assembly is located on the front panel of the case to the right of the 3.5-inch drive bay. Depending on the computer configuration, the assembly provides up to six ports.

- Inside the case, to allow access to the rear of the front ports assembly and more working room, remove the hard drive cage from the computer.
- Depending on the number of ports installed in the assembly, there are one, two, or three cables connected to the rear of the assembly. Follow each cable to its connection on the motherboard or add-in card. Note each connection location, and then disconnect each cable.
- At the front of the case, remove the screw that secures the assembly to the computer case.

- Slide the assembly down until the tabs at the top of the assembly are free of the case slots, and then pull it away from the case.

- Gently pull the cables out through the opening in the front of the chassis. Take care so that the cables do not snag on anything.

Replace the front ports assembly
- Route the front ports assembly cables through the opening in the front of the case.
- Align the assembly on the front of the case slightly lower than its installed position, and then slide it up so that the two tabs on the top of the assembly fit into the two slots on the front of the case.
- Secure the assembly with one screw.

- Inside the case, connect each cable to the motherboard or add-in card.
- Replace the hard drive cage.
- Replace the front bezel
- Replace the left side panel.
- Plug in the power cord, and then turn on the computer.
