Q: How do I remove and replace the USB ports / power switch assembly in the Gateway 5-bay case?

A: Remove the USB ports / power switch assembly

  1. Turn off the computer, and then disconnect the power cord.

  2. Remove the left side panel.

  3. Remove the front bezel

  4. Remove the top bezel

  5. The USB ports / power switch assembly is the smaller device located on the top of the computer. It has several cables permanently connected to it.

  6. Remove the screw that secures the assembly to the computer case.

  7. Follow the assembly's cables to their connections on the motherboard. Carefully note each connection location, and then disconnect each cable.

  8. Gently pull the cables out through the top of the chassis. Note which opening the cables are routed through.
Replace the USB ports / power switch assembly

  1. Route the USB ports / power switch assembly cables through the opening in the top of the case. Ensure that you only use the rectangular opening with the smooth edges.

  2. Secure the assembly to the case with one screw.

  3. Inside the case, connect each cable to the motherboard.

  4. Replace the top bezel

  5. Replace the front bezel

  6. Replace the left side panel.

  7. Plug in the power cord, and then turn on the computer.
