Q: How do I remove and replace an add-in card in the Gateway 5-bay case?

A: Note: These are general instructions for removing and replacing an add-in card. The actual card you remove and replace may look different than the one shown in this document's graphics. However, the steps are the same.

Remove an add-in card

  1. Turn off the computer, and then disconnect the power cord. Disconnect any cables attached to the add-in card being removed.

  2. Remove the left side panel.

  3. Inside the case, the add-in card slots are located in the lower rear corner of the case.

  4. If applicable, disconnect any cables connected to the add-in card. Where cables are attached varies depending on the card installed.

    Note: Although not shown in this document, for more stability carefully lay the computer on its right side.

  5. Near the lower left corner of the computer case, swing the add-in card retention latch away from the case.

  6. Pull the add-in card gently but firmly from the slot. Pulling each end in a rocking motion can be helpful. However, do not twist the card.

    Note: If the add-in card being removed is installed in a PCI Express ×16 slot, press and hold the tab at the end of the slot closest to the front of the computer while pulling up that end of the card.

Replace an add-in card

  1. Ensure that the add-in card retention latch is in the open position.

  2. Align the add-in card with the slot, and then press it firmly into place.

  3. Close the add-in card retention latch to secure the card in the slot.

  4. If applicable, connect cables to the card.

  5. Replace the left side panel.

  6. Plug in the power cord, connect cables to the add-in card, and then turn on the computer.
