Q: How do I remove and replace the hard drive in the Gateway 3-bay nBTX case?

A: Remove the hard drive

  1. Turn off the computer, and then disconnect the power cord.

  2. Remove the case access panel.

  3. Inside the case, the hard drive is located near the right rear corner. It is mounted in a plastic hard drive cage assembly.

  4. Using the hard drive cage handle, lift the hard drive up, and then disconnect the power and signal cables.

    Note: The hard drive signal cable may have a release clip the must be pressed and held to disconnect the cable. Failing to do so can damage the cable.

  5. Lift the hard drive cage assembly out of the computer case.

  6. Press the tab on the hard drive release latch, and then swing the latch open.

  7. Pull up on one side of the hard drive.

  8. Slide the hard drive away from the pins inside the cage, and then lift the drive free.

Replace the hard drive

  1. Inside the hard drive bay on one side are three alignment pins.

  2. Align the hard drive at an angle with the cage and with the hard drive connectors near the cage handle.

  3. Slide the drive into place, ensuring that the three pins in the cage fit into the three screw holes in the side of the hard drive.

  4. Close the hard drive release latch.

  5. Inside the rear of the computer case, align the tabs in the case with the hooks at the corners the hard drive cage.

  6. Connect the power and signal cables to the rear of the hard drive.

  7. Lower the hard drive cage into place.

  8. Replace the case access panel.

  9. Connect the computer's power cord, and then turn on the computer.
