Q: How do I remove and replace a 3.5-inch floppy disk drive in the Hornet case?

A: Drives commonly installed in the 3.5-inch bay are floppy disk or ZIP drives. The graphics in this document were created using a floppy disk drive.

Remove the drive

  1. Remove the case cover.

  2. Remove the front bezel.

  3. Inside the case, lift up the drive cage assembly.

  4. Disconnect the power and controller cables from the rear of the drive.

  5. Lower the drive cage assembly, and then unlock the top drive release lever.

    Note: When lowering the drive cage assembly, ensure that the cables under it are flat and do not get pinched.

  6. From the front of the case, pull the drive out.

Replace the drive

  1. Inside the case, ensure that the release lever for the top drive bay is in the unlocked position.

  2. At the front of the case, slide the drive into the bay.

  3. Lock the release lever for the top drive bay.

    Note: If a drive is present in the bottom bay, ensure that the release lever for that drive bay is also locked.

  4. Lift up the drive cage assembly, and then connect the controller and power cables to the drive.

  5. Lower the drive cage assembly.

    Note: When lowering the drive cage assembly, ensure that the cables under it are flat and do not get pinched.

  6. Replace the front bezel.

  7. Replace the case cover.

    Note: Ensure that the floppy drive controller is enabled in the BIOS Setup Utility.
