Upgrade installation from Windows Vista to Windows 7
The following steps are from upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7. The Acer, Gateway, and eMachines installations are all similar. In the steps below, the Acer disc was used.
- With the computer started and running Windows Vista, place the Acer Upgrade Kit disc in the CD\DVD drive. The disc automatically starts.
- In the Welcome to the Acer Upgrade Kit dialog box, click Start in the Prepare for the upgrade section.

- In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
- The Acer Upgrade Wizard is installed on the computer.

- In the Acer End User License Agreement click I accept the terms in the license agreement and then click Next.

- In the Welcome screen, click Next.

- In the Back up User Data dialog box, it is advised to back up your data. When you back up your data the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard starts. If you have already backed up your data, click Next.

- In the Select Product dialog box, select the appropriate product and then click Next.

- In the Acer Application Upgrade dialog box, follow the on-screen instructions to resolve compatibility problems and then click Next.

- In the Restart Your Computer to Complete Phase 1 dialog box, click Restart.

- The computer restarts and goes back into Windows. The Acer Upgrade Wizard auto starts.
Note: if the upgrade wizard does not auto start, click Start, All Programs, Upgrade Kit, and then Upgrade Wizard.
- In the Phase 1 Completed dialog box, insert the Windows 7 upgrade disc and then click Finish.

- In the Acer Upgrade Wizard dialog box, click OK.

- In the Welcome to the Acer Upgrade Kit dialog box, click Start in the Install Windows 7 section.

- In the Install Windows dialog box, click Install now.

- In the Get important updates for installation dialog box, click Go online to get the latest updates for installation (recommended).

- The computer searches for installation updates.

- In the Please read the license terms screen, check I accept the license terms, and then click Next.

- In the Which type of installation do you want screen, click Upgrade.

- In the Compatibility Report screen, click Next.

- Windows installs and may restart a few times during the process.

- Installation completes.
- In the Type your Windows product key, enter the product key, and then click Next.

- In the Help protect your computer and improve Windows automatically screen, select Use recommended settings.

- In the Review your time and date settings screen, enter appropriate information and then click Next.

- The Windows 7 installation is complete and the Acer Upgrade Kit auto starts.
- In the Welcome to the Acer Upgrade Kit dialog box, click Start in the Install drivers and applications section.

- In the User Account Control dialog box, click Yes.
- In the Welcome screen, click Next.

- In the Acer Upgrade Wizard dialog box, insert the Acer Upgrade Kit disc and then click OK.

- In the Restore User Data dialog box, you can restore your data backed up with Windows Easy Transfer Wizard. If you have finished restoring your data, click Next.

- In the Acer Upgrade Wizard dialog box, click OK.

- In the Drivers and Applications dialog box, relevant updates for applications are drivers appear. Click Install.
Note: If no drivers or applications are available for the computer, this screen does not appear.

- In the Question dialog box, click Yes.

- In the next Question dialog box, click Yes.

- In the Information dialog box, click OK.

- When the installation is complete, Install Complete appears on the screen.

- In the Congratulations dialog box, select Restart now and then click Finish.

- The computer restarts.
- Installation is complete.
