RESOLUTION: Use the appropriate resolution listed below.
Gateway installs Browser Helper Object (BHO) programs to help you navigate the Internet. The BHO prevents Web pages messages such as "Page cannot be displayed" and search engine results that display inappropriate information. Instead, the BHO refers you to a more helpful site.
You have the option of removing the BHO, however once it has been removed Gateway has no influence on which search engines are selected.
Note: If the BHO programs are removed, undesirable Web sites may load and the functionality and the convenience of the BHOs will not exist.
Use the following steps to remove the BHO.
To remove Browser Address Error Redirector:
To remove Google Toolbar for the Internet Explorer:
Note: After removing the programs the computer must be restarted.
If after removing the BHO programs Web addresses are still redirected or blocked, follow the steps below.
Note: These steps check to see if HOSTS files have been modified (the HOSTS file is designed to block or redirect Web sites). Every file in this directory should have the same date and time stamp on the file. If the HOSTS file has a different date and time, or if the file size is larger than 1 KB, the file could be causing Web sites to be blocked.
The following steps provide a generic process to follow.
Microsoft documented has this issue. If the steps above do not resolve the issue, refer to the Microsoft Knowledge Base documents KB326155, KB303807, and KB907479.
If this still does not resolve the issue, the computer may have Spyware or a virus causing the Web sites to be blocked. Update all antivirus, Spyware, and malicious program remover software. If issues still occur after all updates have been completed, the customer should be redirected to Answers By Gateway support phone number: (800) 229-1103.
